Thanksgiving Leftovers Recipes

Thanksgiving is almost here, which means leftovers season is just about to begin and for some, this is the best time of year. We get it, what’s not to love about piling up a plate full of our favorite food, covering it in gravy, warming it up and enjoying it in front of the TV. While tradition is important and we always encourage gravy doused food, we think this year it might be time to spice up the Thanksgiving leftovers a little bit with some new recipes. Alta City West wants you to know you can have your food smothered in gravy and eat it too. Here in Houston, we do Thanksgiving just like everything else in Texas; BIG. Grab a snack and enjoy Thanksgiving Leftovers Recipes because you’re going to get hungry just reading about these.

Thanksgiving Pizza

We know, we know. Why didn’t you already think of combining your all time favorite Italian meal with the best foodie event of the year?! It’s so simple and so delicious. Buy any store-bought pizza dough, use gravy as your sauce and top it with any Thanksgiving dish you deem necessary. Photo and recipes here.

Turkey Quesadilla

Honestly, mixing anything with cheese and grilling it in a tortilla is an awesome idea and it pretty much can’t go wrong. So it makes sense that stuffing turkey, vegetables and all of our other favorite Thanksgiving dishes into one is basically genius. Photo and recipe here.

Leftovers Pie

Yes, when we hear the word pie we think of sugar thrown into a flaky crust and cooked until golden brown perfection and topped with whipped cream. It doesn’t need to be all about the sugar this year though, Houston. You can throw all of your leftovers into a pit crust, mix it with some gravy and bake it for the perfect afternoon slice of heaven. Photo and recipe from here.

Is it bad that we’re not sorry how hungry we probably just made you? It’s probably because we’re equally as hungry after writing about all these delicious Thanksgiving concoctions. You don’t need to continue on the same ol’ turkey sandwich and leftovers plate tradition. Well, if you have as many leftovers as we will you could probably have your leftovers plate, sandwich and one of each of these recipes to satisfy your turkey day desires. Go ahead and stuff yourself this year Houston, Thanksgiving is only once a year after all.

Thanksgiving Essentials For A Perfect Holiday

Thanksgiving is such a great time of year because it kicks off the holiday season and gets everyone together to start celebrating a time of giving. For some, Thanksgiving is easy peasy because they’ve got the basics down to a science and they kick off Thanksgiving without a hitch every year. However, for some they need a few reminders and guidance on how to throw an amazing Turkey Day party. We here at Alta City West want to give you some Thanksgiving essentials to make sure your day is one of the best you’ve ever had. And even better news, Houston is one of the best places to throw a Thanksgiving day party. The weather isn’t too hot but you don’t need to be in jackets either. So just relax, you’ve got the base to an amazing holiday already going. Here are just a few Thanksgiving essentials to put the cherry on top of the sundae.

The Dessert

The one thing we know for sure is the necessity for sugar on Thanksgiving. We understand that having the same pie every year can become tiresome. These recipes are sure to pleasantly surprise everyone while still bringing a fall theme to your Turkey Day dinner. (Recipes and photos from here).

The Decorations

It doesn’t take much to give your home a fall feeling when inviting a bunch of guests over. If you’re hosting the big dinner chances are people are going to be more focused on the food rather than the decorations anyways. However, it is still nice to welcome people in with small reminders of the season around us. Get a chalkboard going for people to write their favorite dishes, have small fall crafting tables for the kids, and put out some candles and pumpkins to get everyone in the spirit. (Decorations and photo from here).

The Basics

The one thing everyone tends to forget about on Thanksgiving is to just have fun and relax with your closest friends and family. Plan ahead and just take the day as it comes and don’t worry about things going wrong. No matter what, if you spend the day with your nearest and dearest it’s going to be a great holiday. Follow some of these tips to plan ahead to have a less stressful holiday. (Tips and photo from here).

Thanksgiving is approaching quicker than you might think! Use our guide to create the perfect deserts, decorations and scheduling so that you can have the most relaxing and well put together dinner your friends and family have ever seen. Make it fun and festive but most importantly make it a memorable Turkey Day.

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

We get it that the pressure is on this Halloween to always show up in some incredibly funny and witty Halloween costume. But who really has time for all that? We’re here to tell you that your Halloween is not yet a complete failure. You can still put together a great last minute Halloween costume that is clever and funny that everyone will love. The best part about these costumes? You don’t even need to spend a lot of time on them before the big day. We here at Alta City West want you to head out into Houston and show everyone just how great your costume is so we’ve put together the best last minute Halloween costumes we can muster up just for you. Happy trick or treating, Houston!

The Stick Figure

You might just want to be the most plain and simple thing you can think of this Halloween – no muss, no fuss. That’s why the stick figure is perfect. You need a grand total of three things to throw this costume together last minute and people will love it – guaranteed! (Photo from here).

The Fruit

You can never go wrong with being fruit. It’s one of the easiest costumes to put together since all you really need are some balloons and construction paper and it’s always a crowd pleaser. (Photo from here).

The Latest Craze

It seems that everyone caught onto the Snapchat filter fun this year and one of the most recognizable ones was the rainbow mouth. Paint some rainbow onto your face and do a little eye make up and you’re good to go. People will be trying to take Snapchats with you all night long. (Photo from here).

We get that work schedules are hectic and you don’t have time to sit around all day and think up some clever Halloween costume to impress your friends with. But that’s why we’re here, we want to help you put your best foot forward out there Houston! Go forth rainbow mouths, and show HTown what you’re made of. Grapes and all.

Easy Fall Decorations For Around The House

Fall is one of the most recognizable seasons and it’s easily one of our favorites. It comes up right behind Christmas in the list of holidays that it is absolutely okay to completely over decorate your home for. Between pumpkins, cobwebs, witches and ghouls, there is never a shortage on what you can decorate with during October! However, we recognize that the same old plain Jane decorations can get boring year after year. So we here at Alta City West are here to help with providing you with easy fall decorations for around the house! We’ve picked out perfect decorations to help accent West Houston style and comfort with October Halloween accents. The best part? All of these decorations are so simple and you can throw them in any room to add an autumn vibe to your place.

Burlap Candles

Grab any old candle you have, put a little burlap around it and instantly transform it into a fun autumn decoration for your space. Put a few bigger and smaller candles together in a cluster with a miniature pumpkin and you have a whole festive presentation ready to go. (Tutorial and photo from here).

Paint on Your Pumpkins

Painting on your pumpkins is a fun way to spice up an old tradition with some new charm. It also means that the pumpkin won’t rot or attract bugs into your home. Throw a little glitter on top of the paint and you’ve officially won Halloween. (Tutorial and photo from here).

Spooky Wreath

The first thing people see when they walk into your home should be the most impressive decoration of them all! Good thing making something impressive doesn’t necessarily mean lots of time, effort and money. You can throw some fabric or Halloween decorations onto a wreath ring and hang it up on a ribbon to wow your guests. (Tutorial and photo from here).

Whether you’re looking to go all out and turn your home into the new Halloween party central or if you just want to add a few accents to give off the autumn feel, you can do it all quickly and with just a few supplies you have lying around the house. Don’t stress out about Halloween this year Alta City West, we’ve got you covered.
